Music by The Piano Brothers

Dee Ann Mathias was born on September 8, 1952, to Robert James Mathias and Marjorie Ann Mathias at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. She joined her Lord on December 21, 2020, due to complications from Covid-19 at The University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, at the age of 68. Dee Ann attended school in Beaver, Oklahoma, graduating in 1970. In the early 1970s, Dee Ann lived in Woodward and completed the requirements to become an LPN. After receiving her license, she returned to Beaver and worked at the Beaver County Nursing Home and later worked the night shift at the Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, KS.

In the summer of 1975, Dee Ann met Max Rodney Underwood when he subbed for her regular partner in their bowling league. They dated for approximately five years, and when Max proposed, Dee Ann’s answer was, “It’s about time.” They were married on November 22, 1980. Dee Ann moved a whole 10 miles away from her hometown to live three miles west of Forgan, Oklahoma, to be a farm wife and stay at home mother.

Dee Ann is survived by her husband, Max Underwood; children, Robert Jason Underwood, Hennessy, OK; Mark Underwood, Oklahoma City, OK; Ashley Arganbright and husband Brandt, Clinton, OK; and grandson Connor Underwood, Eufaula, OK. Dee Ann is also survived by her sister, Deborah Nelson and husband John, and her nephew John Nelson Jr. with wife Elizabeth and daughter Kate, New Caney, TX, and a host of family and friends.

Dee Ann was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Timothy Mathias.

During her life, Dee Ann was a very active member in church, played the piano for the Beaver United Methodist Church for a number of years, and has played the piano and organ at the Forgan United Methodist Church in recent years. Dee Ann played the piano for the Forgan Public School choirs in various years, as well as lending her musical talents to many different wedding and memorial services throughout her life. Dee Ann was also a frequent visitor to the residents in the Beaver County Nursing Home, and believed in helping others when she was able. Dee Ann was brilliant, loving, kind, funny, giving, stubborn, and at times painfully blunt. It cannot be expressed how much she will be missed, or how much she was loved. Indeed her family states that she was the strongest woman they have ever known, and they believe with all their hearts that she is still here in the hearts of the people who love her.

Donations in Memoriam may be sent to the Forgan United Methodist Church at Post Office Box 308, Forgan, OK 73938, or to the Beaver County Nursing Home at 200 East 8th Street, Beaver, OK 73932. Services for Dee Ann will be announced at a later date.
