Lura Marie (Couch) Sprague was born February 7, 1938 in York, Nebraska to Warren and Ilda Couch. She was the oldest of 3 children.  The Couch Family moved to Lynnwood, California in 1941.
Around 1945 the Family returned to York, Nebraska and lived there until 1950 when they moved to Wichita, Kansas.

Lura gradutated from East High in Wichita in 1955 at the age of 17.

Lura was employed as a soda jerk at a drug store.  She then went to work at Massachusetts Mutual Insurance.

Lura married the love of her life, Herb Sprague on October 18, 1958 at the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church in Wichita, Kansas.  Lura was a charter member of the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church.

In May of 1964 the young couple moved to Beaver County, Oklahoma with 2 young children and one on the way.

On the move to Oklahoma, Herb and Lura stopped in Buffalo, Oklahoma to get a bite to eat and Lura discovered that eating dill pickles caused the Mumps.

Lura was a stay at home Mom with young children and took on the role of Beaver United Methodist Church secretary dragging 3 kids to work once a week.

Lura went to work for The Northern Natural Gas Plant as a payroll clerk and secretary for 16 years.

Some of Lura's most enjoyable activites included United Methodist Women where she served as Secretary-Treasurer for many years, singing in the Church Choir and serving on various Chuch Committees. She enjoyed singing in the Beaver Christmas Cantata, collecting bells and reading her daily devotions.  Cooking, sewing and baking were some of Lura's most noted traits.

She had a deep love for her grandchildren, attending many of their activites and events.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Warren and Ilda Couch and son, Stanley Sprague.

Lura departed her life on this earth on July 21, 2020 at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 14 days.

She is survived by her husband, Herb Sprague of 61 years; a sister, Jane Lemmons and husband Frank; a brother, Frank Couch and wife Theresa; a son, JR Sprague and wife Debbie and a daughter, Connie Vaughan and husband Steven.

She had 4 grandchildren; Raegan Vaughan and wife Sara, Haley Martin and husband Tyler, Malorie Vaughan and fiance Colton Pease, and Andrew Sprague and wife Whitley; two great granddaughters, Emory Martin and Claire Vaughan

In lieu of flowers, the Family has asked that Memorial contributions be made to The Beaver United Methodist Church or to the Mountain View Cemetery.

Herb,
I am saddened to read this obituary but know she now knows everybody and everything once again. She will be watching your every move as she did before the dreaded-disease enter her mind. I have such fond-memories of our many Methodist-trips together in-the-church van or private-vehicles, I even remember several we made with Pastor Don or Mike Blackard or Pastor Robert at-the-wheel; what fun we had. The funny-one I well-remember was when we had been to OPSU to serve a meal, stopped in Guymon at the c-store to get drinks and someone (I cannot remember for sure which one of us) spilled a large-drink in-the-van (fortunately floor). We even made Mike laugh over that. Grieve-as-you must, not-as-others will tell you is right, wrong or indifferent. Cling tightly to our God's unchanging and unfailing hands, He will never fail to meet your every-need. God bless each-and-every one of you! Sorry I cannot make the trip from Stillwater for service because of coronavirus here. My family has me grounded with the rest of the vulnerable-ones.

I am so sorry for your loss of Lura. She was the sweetest and kindest lady. May God give each of you comfort now and the days ahead. One thing that gives me comfort is knowing she will be reunited with her sweet son Stanley. I bet that was a glorious moment for both of them.
