Music by The Piano Brothers

Charlotte “Charlie” Faye Gross was born on November 2, 1944 in Pampa, Texas to Cedore Joseph and Eva Ellen (Justice) Hess. She attended school in Pampa, Kellerville and Wheeler, Texas. She completed college in Cisco with an Associate’s Degree in Social Work. Charlie learned to fly a plane in the 80’s in Wheeler, Texas. She owned several businesses, drove a truck for several years and she also worked at the Beaver County Courthouse for nine years.

Everywhere Charlie was, she made good friends. She was love by so many. Charlie loved to cook for her family and friends. She would cook enough to feed an army. Her specialty was homemade bread and Tex’s favorite fried chicken.

Charlie and Tex enjoyed life together as they were bestest friends. They would make several unplanned tips. They would go to Vegas to the PBR Finals. One memorable trip was to New Mexico, Colorado and Yellow Stone. They made many memories together.

Charlie is preceded in death by her parents, Cedore Joseph and Eva Ellen Hess of Wheeler, Texas; her son, Randy Trent Bentley from Merkel, Texas; brother Bob Hess of Crane, Texas; sister JoAnn Bell of Pampa, Texas; and brother Cecil Hess of Melissa, Texas.

Charlie went to be with Jesus on March 1, 2021 at the age of 76.

Charlie is survived by the love of her life and bestest friend, Tex Gross of Beaver, Oklahoma; daughter Toni and husband Bryan Robertson, daughter Hether and husband Lee Devine, Chancie and Kevin Getz, James and Stephanie Gross, nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; her sister Marilyn and husband Carroll Kelton and a host of other relatives and friends.

Charlie loved her family dearly. She would want us all to celebrate her life. She was an amazing woman.

Do not stand at my grave and weep

I am not there

I do not sleep

I am a thousand winds that blow

I am the diamond that glints on the snow

I am the gentle Autumn rain

When you awake in the morning, Hush

I am the swift uplifting rush

Or quite birds in circled flights

I am the soft stars that shine at night

Do not stand at my grave and cry

I am not there

I did not die.

Love you Momma

I am deeply saddened to read this obituary; I have lost count of Beaver since moving to Stillwater and my health doesn't allow my driving out-of-town any longer. Chancie, I have you and Tex in my prayers and know the hurt you are experiencing for him since I have been a widow 19 years this June. Tex, grieve-as-you must not-as-others are telling you is right, wrong or indifferent. I won't tell you it will be easy to do but will tell you our Lord will hold you tightly when you cling to His unchanging and unfailing hand. Each of you travel the pathway our Lord has for you now, there are no pathways as each has their own individual one. May God bless you as you go forward. I met Tex and Charlie at the Senior Citizen Wednesday lunches and immediately learned they were great.

Charlie was a classmate of mine in Wheeler, Texas. She always had a positive attitude and infectious smile. We rarely saw each other as adults but it was nice to see her at the Wheeler School Reunions. She talked about her family and it was obvious they were special to her. My sincere condolences to her family.
