Gerald Dean Edwards was born on July 7, 1947, in Dodge City, Kansas, to Wallace W. Edwards and Iva L. Epley Edwards. He grew up in Meade, Kansas, and graduated from Meade High School in 1965. After earning an associate degree from Dodge City Community College, he enlisted in the Army in 1967 and was honorably discharged in 1969 after serving as an air traffic controller.

Gerald married Elaine Oman on June 2, 1967, in Littleton, Colorado. They welcomed their daughter, Lindsay Marie, in 1977. The couple divorced in 1982, and he continued living in Meade.

He later met Barbara Couch Atwood, and they married on March 30, 1983, in Gate, Oklahoma. They made their home in Meade, where they lived until Gerald chose to complete his college education.

In 1991, Gerald earned a degree in civil engineering from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. After spending a few years in Olathe, Kansas, he and Barb moved to Garden City, where he founded GE Engineering PA. He semi-retired in 2022, and they moved to Blanchard, Oklahoma.

Gerald passed on August 12, 2026, at OU Health Center, surrounded by loved ones.

Gerald is survived by his wife of 43 years, Barbara of Blanchard, Oklahoma; his daughter, Lindsay Langdon of Tampa, Florida; and his stepchildren, Lisa Bennett (Guy) of Minco, Oklahoma, William Atwood (Grace) of Rochester, Washington, and Darla Mills of Beaver, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Hayley and Charley Langdon, Shaye Gregory Bias (Evan), Jessica and Kayla Atwood, Myka Mills Mooney, Bobby Joe Mills (Shanon), and Rustin Mills (Faith); and thirteen great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by two sisters, Barbara Davis (Larry) of Sublette, Kansas, and Shayla Westhoff (Steve) of Arkansas City, Kansas; his brother, David Edwards of Arkansas City, Kansas; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Harold; niece, Lisa Edwards; sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Dwayne Parsons; sister, Ruth, who died in infancy; and his grandson, Cody Gregory.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Edwards home, 942 S. County Line Rd., Blanchard, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Graceland Cemetery in Meade, Kansas. In accordance with Gerald’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
