Hortense was born to John and Opal Daniel on August 13, 1935 of Laverne, Oklahoma.
She met the love of her life, Donald Starbuck, at a town dance in 1954 and they married on September 11, 1955. They started their journey in life together in Shattuck, Oklahoma where they started raising a family, Reford, John, LaDona and Kelly. Then they moved to Sedan, Kansas where the family continued to grow with the addition of Charlie, LaCinda and Romona. Later, the family returned to their roots and settled on their farm in Slapout, Oklahoma to be close to family, where Hortense became “Mom” to everyone who graced their home.
Hortense loved arts and crafts and enjoyed many years with the local women’s club entering her prize-winning clothes, quilts, and other crafts in the local fair. She also used her talent to help out with costumes for the kids’ school plays and choir outfits. She was always willing to take time to teach someone how to crochet or quilt. Even as her health began to decline, she still enjoyed crocheting and would make animals to give to the kids at the local hospital.
She too great pride in watching her children grow up and as the family began to grow and have children of their own, she realized she enjoyed being a grandparent even mor and enjoyed traveling to visit whenever possible.
She leaves a legacy of integrity, hard work, generosity and the love of serving others.
Hortense is preceded in death by her parents, John and Opal Daniel; her husband, Don Starbuck; her son, Reford Starbuck; sister, Janice Daniel and brother R.C. Daniel.
Hortense left this world on April 10, 2022 in Elk City, Oklahoma. She will be deeply missed by her family and all the she touched in life.
She is survived by her children, Lola Starbuck, John and Becki Starbuck, LaDona Roddy, Kelly and Irma Starbuck, Charlie and Cathy Starbuck, La Cinda and Jeremy Farmer, Romona and Stephen Willoughby; her brother, Wayne and JanKelly Daniel; sister-in-law, Martha Daniel; fifteen cherished grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren.
