Heaven apparently needed a little more humor, a little more ornery, and someone who knew how to love fiercely. On June 6, 2026, John Howard "Jack" Morris answered that call, leaving this earth at the age of 80 and undoubtedly already telling stories, giving advice, and keeping everyone on their toes.

Jack was born on June 9, 1945, to Blum and Winifred “Winnie” Morris in Beaver, Oklahoma. He grew up on a farm near Anthony, where he learned the values of hard work, perseverance, and how to be just stubborn enough to get through life on his own terms.

He graduated from Turpin High School in 1963 and continued his education at Northwestern State University, Oklahoma State University, and Panhandle State University. True to form, Jack completed all but one class toward his degree. For those who knew him, it seems fitting that he left college exactly as he had lived much of his life, doing things his own way.

One of the greatest blessings of Jack's life began in high school when he started dating Mary Ann. The two were married on January 22, 1966, in Turpin. Their love story spanned decades and created a legacy of family, faithfulness, and devotion. The love Jack and Mary Ann shared was something special. It was unmatched by anyone fortunate enough to witness it.

Of all the titles Jack held throughout his life, "Papa Jack" may have been his favorite. His grandchildren were one of the greatest joys of his life, and he was their biggest fan. Whether it was a ballgame, school event, livestock show, or any activity that mattered to them, Papa Jack was there. Their friends loved him too, knowing they could always count on a word of encouragement, a joke, or some of his famous "helpful advice" after the game. You never had to wonder what Papa Jack was thinking; he was more than willing to tell you.

What made Jack unforgettable was his authenticity. He was loyal, hardworking, and fiercely protective of the people he loved. He could make you laugh, make you think, and occasionally make you roll your eyes; usually all in the same conversation. His family will remember his quick wit, his stubborn determination, and the way he loved without reservation.

Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Mary Ann Morris; his parents, Blum and Winnie Morris; and his sister, Judy Depew.

Jack is survived by his son, Dane Morris and his partner, Claudine; Dane's son, Cale Morris; and Claudine's children, Anna and Casey Tibbetts. His daughter, Brooke Taylor her daughters, Bree Sale and her husband, Tyler, and Britt Birdwell and her husband, Jarret. His son, Tyler Morris and his wife, Lee Ann; and their daughter, Brynlee Morris. His daughter, Ashley Lehnert and her husband, John, their children, Riley Lehnert and her fiancé, Adam Creason, and Jaxon Lehnert.

The family is especially grateful for the compassionate care provided by High Plains Hospice nurses Shambri Smiley, Cindy Bentley, and Scotty King whose kindness and support meant so much.

Papa Jack's legacy is not found only in the years he lived, but in the people he loved, the laughter he shared, the lessons he taught, and the countless lives he touched. He was one of a kind, and while Heaven may have gained exactly what it needed, those of us left behind will miss him dearly.
