Larry was born August 18, 1945, in Meade, Kansas to Isaac (Ike) Cornelson and Mary Lorene Vann Cornelson of Meade, Kansas. Larry attended Meade schools from first to tenth grade and completed his High School education at Laverne High School in Laverne, Oklahoma. Larry attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma. Larry participated and enjoyed playing football, basketball, and baseball during his high school years. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Irene Evans on August 23, 1964, at the Baptist Church in Laverne, Oklahoma. He and Dorothy have three children: DeWayne, Shannon, and Casey.
Larry resided in Tyrone, Oklahoma for twenty-nine years and was employed as a Construction Superintendent with Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company in Liberal, Kansas. Larry retired after thirty-one years with the company in May of 2000. He retired on a Friday and returned to work the following Monday as a consultant for twelve years and retired full time in 2012.
Larry enjoyed many activities throughout the years such as camping and fishing at Monument Lake in Monument, Colorado with family and friends. He also enjoyed boating, fishing, and skiing at Fort Supply Lake in Fort Supply, Oklahoma. Larry was also a large supporter of anything his children or grandchildren participated in, he would be in the stands cheering them on. He could also be found during football season cheering on his favorite team the Oklahoma Sooners! He was also an avid hunter and enjoyed many years quail, deer, dove and turkey hunting. One of his favorite sports was trap or skeet shooting, you could find him most weekends traveling to a trap shoot!
Preceding Larry in death were his parents Ike and Lorene Cornelson and brother Marvin “Dutch” Cornelson.
Larry Cornelson, 77, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2023, at his home in Beaver, Oklahoma.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy of Beaver, Oklahoma; son DeWayne and wife Tausia Cornelson of Tyrone, Oklahoma; daughter Shannon and husband Noe Flores of Stillwater, Oklahoma; son Casey and wife Kristi Cornelson of Tuttle, Oklahoma along with grandchildren, Shayla and Chris Scott of Norman, Oklahoma; Triston Cornelson and Kaitlin Olson of Norman, Oklahoma; Alicia Flores of Stillwater, Oklahoma; Wyatt Flores Nashville, Tennessee; and great grandson Keaton Scott.
