Mary Ellen Sager, 78, of Balko, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born on December 9, 1946, in Borger, Texas, to Robert and Margaret Novak. Mary Ellen earned her education degree from Panhandle A&M and went on to marry Larry Sager on March 23, 1968. Together, they raised three children: Annette, Shad, and Nathan.
Mary Ellen was a devoted wife, mother, and “Meme,” and—by God’s perfect timing—became a great-grandmother just two weeks ago. A long-time member of Balko Baptist Church and the Gray Club, she thrived in her role as homemaker and became a beloved pillar of the community. She stayed actively involved with her children, proudly serving as a 4-H and FFA mom.
She was known for her many talents and passions, especially as a skilled seamstress and artist. She even taught tole painting classes, and her artwork continues to grace the homes of many family and friends. Her faith and family were the most important parts of her life. She found joy in bringing everyone together for annual Christmas trips, combining her love of travel with her deep love for her family. For many years, she and Larry spent their winters in Black Rock, Arizona, enjoying warm weather and new friendships.
Mary Ellen is survived by her husband of 57 years, Larry; daughter Annette Bower and her husband Chris of Duncan, Oklahoma; and son Nathan Sager and his wife Mindy of Balko, Oklahoma. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Cassidy Sarali and her husband Mike, Paityn Macko and her husband Robert, Carley Sager, Kadyn Sager, and Brody Sager; along with great-grandson Henry Macko. She is also survived by two sisters: Patricia Gabriel, and Sharon David and her husband Cliff; her sister-in-law Retha Regnier; many nieces and nephews; and a large circle of extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Bob Novak; her son, Shad Sager; her in-laws, Betty and Delbert Sager; and her brother-in-law, “Doc” John Regnier.
Memorial donations may be made to Gideons International.
