Neill Ernest Myers, lovingly known as “Pappy,” was born on a snowy March 12th, 1947, in Beaver, Oklahoma, to Ernestine Pyle Myers and Glen Myers. He peacefully left us on September 4th, 2024, at his beloved home in Beaver.
Neill’s school days at Turpin High School were filled with football, basketball, track, band, choir, and the men’s quartet. He graduated in 1965 and went on to Oklahoma Panhandle State University, where he earned a degree in music education. He spent his career teaching band, choir, and guitar to junior high and high school students in Bird City, Kansas, and Turpin, Oklahoma.
When his father passed away in a farming accident, Neill returned to Oklahoma to take care of the family farm and ranch. He worked hard to expand the ranch and increase the cow-calf operation. He also worked as a computer operator at the Beaver Livestock Auction Service.
Neill was a pillar of the community, serving as the president of the Beaver County Memorial Hospital board, a board member of the Apostolic Faith Bible College in Baxter Springs, Kansas, and an active member of the Balko Community Faith Church, the Beaver County Soil Conservation board, and the Beaver County Election board.
In high school, Neill was a dedicated member of the Turpin Methodist Church, active in the youth group and Youth for Christ. He was immensely proud of his children and known for his tireless work ethic. Neill Myers was part of the heart and soul in Beaver County, the foundation of the Myers family and farm. His legacy of love, dedication, and hard work will live on through his family.
He was a stern man when he needed to be, but naturally he was gentle, loving, and caring. He loved his family to the point of self-sacrifice. He loved the Lord and his church. Teaching Sunday School was one of his joys. He read through the Bible once a year for many years. In his younger years, he worked with the Gideons, distributing Bibles and speaking in churches. As a grandfather, Pappy was also willing to play a fatherly role when necessary. He drilled multiplication tables, checked papers, and listened to musical practice. He had a wonderful bass voice which he used at church, weddings, funerals, and school. The smallest children at school called him “The Singing Man.” The joy of song filled his home, vehicle, church, and classroom. He looked forward to rehearsals with the Wizards of Harmony Barbershop Chorus.
Neill was preceded in death by his parents, Ernestine and Glen Myers, and his younger brother, Mark Myers. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Barbara Myers; his sisters, Ann Bowling (husband Tom) and Kaye Sipes; his daughter, Jodi Vega Myers (husband Joseph Vega); his son, Joshua Bart Myers (wife Macy); and his grandchildren, Syvanah Myers Booth, Reighlyn Ann Arizmendi, Angelina Michelle Glitsch, Bart Neill Myers, and Krister Myers. His great-grandchildren, Alezander Robin Lopez, Zeighdyn Chevy Booth, Gracelyn Jean Booth, Hadleigh Nichole Glitsch, Rowan irene Glitsch, and Jackson Leonard Glitsch, will carry on his legacy.
