1929 Pearl Haskell 2025

Pearl Nadine Haskell

April 22, 1929 — November 23, 2025

Beaver, Oklahoma

Pearl Nadine (Rather) Haskell, a lifelong resident of Beaver County, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025, at the age of 96.

Pearl was born on April 22, 1929, to Otis and Alvinnie (Vin) Rather on a farm one mile east of Gate, Oklahoma. She was the youngest of three children and had two older sisters, Virginia and Elaine. Pearl received her entire education at Gate school and often walked one mile to and from school every day. She recalled the Dust Bowl days and the black storm that rolled in from the northwest when she was only six years old.

In 1941, when World War II began and in the era of rationing of gasoline, shoes, and other items was enforced, Pearl's life changed after the sudden death of her father. She stayed on the farm with her mother to raise turkeys, chickens, sheep, and cattle.

At age 13, Pearl began working at the Rosa Lee Café in Gate for several summers. She also worked at the Avery Grocery Store in Gate on Saturdays. Pearl loved working and meeting people. She also enjoyed playing basketball, where she made many lifelong friends. During her junior year of high school at the Beaver County Basketball Tournament, she met the love of her life, a charming, smiling, blue-eyed young man named Clinton Haskell. Pearl graduated from Gate High School in 1947 and was President of her senior class.

Clinton and Pearl dated for two years and then married on April 27, 1948, at the Methodist Church in Buffalo, Oklahoma. She always beamed telling the story of how dapper he looked that day. They were blessed with three children: Cheryl Lynn in 1950, Alan Eugene in 1952, and Debra Denise in 1955.

The couple lived for six years on a farm southwest of Beaver. In 1955, they moved into town, Pearl was a babysitter and then went to work at Grayce’s Fashion for eight years. Pearl went on to work at the Beaver County Court Clerk's Office starting in 1971 as a Deputy Court Clerk and later became Court Clerk until her retirement in December of 1992.

Pearl and Clinton were lifetime residents of Beaver County, being born, educated, and raising their family. They were active members of the Beaver Church of Christ. Pearl and Clinton loved traveling over the years. They enjoyed watching their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participate in sporting events. They were two of the biggest Beaver Duster fans you would ever meet. Some of their fondest memories include state tournament trips, OU football games, and a trip to Hawaii to celebrate their 30th Wedding Anniversary.

Pearl and Cliniton were able to celebrate their 75th anniversary in 2022. They were a true testament to loyalty, commitment and perseverance.

To us, she was Mimi. She had the best memory and recall and whenever someone needed family information, she was the one to call. She could recount every detail. Our Mimi was the family historian. She was smart, savvy and a bit sassy too! She made the best Sunday lunches after church and was a fierce competitor at any game you would like to try her at, she was in it to win it. She had a competitive spirit about her and she was fierce. She also loved to shop and her shoe collection was quite extraordinary, she passed this gene on to many of her grandchildren, as well. She was the family matriarch and will be dearly missed.

Pearl is survived by her children: Cheryl and husband Leland of Enid, OK, Alan and wife Sandra of Tuttle, Ok, and Debbie of Beaver, OK. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Lori King, Alissa Schlessman, husband Craig , Amanda Stambaugh, husband Eric, Summer Smylie, Trace Haskell, wife Mariah, and Blane Smylie; and seven great-grandchildren: Lawson and Ashton King, Rylie Utsey and husband Braxton, Malloree Schlessman, Ethan Stambaugh, Joseph and Kaytee Haskell, and great great grandchildren Libby and Kash King. Her niece Sandra Bridwell Kaszuba, nephew Otis Woodruff and many great nephews and nieces. And, her special friends, Reola Nash, Sharon Raven and Ed and JoAnn Herchock.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clinton Haskell. Her parents, sisters, Virginia (and Dale) Bridwell and Elaine (and Joe) Woodruff, niece Linda Adams and great granddaughter, Haven Stambaugh.
