Ramona Sue Russell

February 25, 1950 — August 10, 2025

Enid, Oklahoma

Ramona “Sue” (Lochner) Russell, 75. Enid, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at her most recent home at Baptist Village Nursing Center. Sue was born on February 25, 1950, to B.A. and Frances (Patten) Lochner, in Shattuck, Oklahoma. Sue was the youngest of three children and had two older brothers: Robert “Bob” Lochner and Alvin “Bud” Lochner. Sue spent her early childhood growing up on the family farm around Gate, Oklahoma, and then moved into the town of Gate, from which she graduated high school in 1968.

Sue graduated from the first nursing class of Central State University (now University of Central Oklahoma) in 1972. Her time at Central State University is where she met her lifelong friend, Elaine Adams. Even though they ended up living halfway across the country from each other, they remained close and connected as long as they were able through phone calls, cards, and letters, and the annual trip together. Usually Sue and Elaine would meet in Oklahoma City for their time together, but one year they met and spent the week in New Orleans, Louisiana. Sue remembered that trip for the rest of her life and even memorialized it with her first tattoo.

Sue most notably worked at the Beaver County Memorial Hospital beginning 1981 until her final retirement in 2019. Sue loved her job at the hospital, and she held several positions. She was hired as a relief nurse but spent most of her years as an RN Charge Nurse on the floor. In 1996 she was promoted to Director of Nurses, but in 1999 she decided to move back to the floor and be a charge nurse again. Sue loved working the floor of the hospital, but most especially loved being the charge nurse on the night shift. Many in the community remember her as the kind, compassionate nurse who never flinched when she needed to be the strong assertive charge nurse handling a stressful situation. But probably the most notable “Sue Russell” story was when she met her late husband, Bill Russell. The famous story that she loved to tell entailed when she kicked him out of “her ER”. Several years later, after her divorce, they met again and eventually married in 1995.

Sue’s most cherished accomplishment is raising her two daughters, Amy (Keas) Almond and Anna (Keas) Davis, and their marriages to her beloved Sons-in-Law, Chris Almond and Kenny Davis, Jr. She loved spending time with her girls, especially during the weekend girl’s trips where she spoiled them with shopping and eating at their favorite restaurants. Sue enjoyed every minute she got to spend with her daughters and their families, whether it was eating out, going shopping, babysitting her grandchildren, or just having a long conversation late at night. Sue dearly loved being “Grandma Sue” to her many grandchildren, and never showed a difference between any of them, regardless of how they became her grandchildren. Her grandchildren are left with wonderful memories of almost homemade sticky bun cinnamon rolls, sugar biscuits, monkey bread, and endless bags of candy, fruit, and any other kind of snacks.

Family was incredibly important to Sue. She had an innumerable number of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews that she remained very close to. One of her favorite events of the year was attending the annual family reunion. Another of Sue’s favorite activities was watching sports events, whether it was her children, grandchildren, or simply a Beaver County team. She and Bill attended every High School Basketball State Championship Tournament they could, happy to cheer on whichever teams were playing.

After the passing of her husband, Sue moved to Enid, Oklahoma where she spent her remaining years living at Baptist Village Nursing Center. Sue was obviously a favorite of the Baptist Village nurses that took care of her and her hospice nurse. Even though she was not as energetic and spunky as she was known to be in her younger life, her lively personality and love for working the night shift still shown through. Sue passed on August 10, 2025, when she was reunited with her many treasured family members and husband that passed before her.

She is survived by her daughters, Amy Almond and her husband Chris of Knowles, OK; and Anna Davis and her husband Kenny of Pond Creek, OK; her brother, Robert Lochner and his wife Bonnie of Wichita, KS; and best friend, Elaine Adams and her husband Behrooz of Jacksonville, FL; her step-children, Brock Russell and his wife, Stacey of Beaver, OK, Stacey Leinen and her husband Destin of Amarillo, TX; Stephanie Fulton, and her husband David of Kingston, OK; and Dustin Walker, and his wife Monica of Ulysses, KS. Sue is also survived by seventeen grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.

Sue is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bud and his wife Mel, her niece Kristine, her stepson Shawn, granddaughter Kaylana, and her beloved husband, Bill. Sue’s daughters wish anyone that has a cherished memory of her to please share that memory with them through personal contact or social media. These stories and more will be shared and Sue’s memory honored at her service held on September 20, 2025, at 1 o’clock pm at the First Christian Church of Beaver, Oklahoma.
